Kat paused for a minute before bursting into incredulous laughter “You’re kidding me” she laughed “well I guess not. Blimy never know what’s right under your nose huh? I’m so glad I found you guys I mean I’ve been thinking about coming to find you for a while now but I mean I really don’t have anywhere else to go now and I dunno I heard the stories and everything and I just thought you were my best bet. So um where do you fit into it all? If it’s not too rude to ask or anything.”
Jesus’ smile widened as he noticed Kat’s change; she beamed and, in turn, so did he. To see such excitement flooding from someone was just as joyous for him, after all! “You’ve found us!” He confirmed, laughing. “And you are welcome to stay for a while, if that is what you want.”
As Jesus settled again, he lowered his voice, forming a plan in his mind; there was always the chance that this girl was a spy, after all. Perhaps if he could find out what she already knew about their organisation, his mind would be put at rest. And, so, Jesus countered Kat’s question with his own - quiet and soft, yet full of curiosity. “What have you heard about their leader?”
The man looked kind of sad when he said the name of the group but it passed before Kat even had time to think about it. “Yeah that’d be great actually my feet are killing me.” She took the seat offered by the fire and sighed in relief. “Name’s Kat “Rome don’t much like me” Pancho, well it’s not really, I mean its Kat Pancho but what Rome thinks of you usually determines what other people think of you know what I mean? Anyway I’m rambling. Yeah I’m looking for the twelve because…well…to be honest.” She paused before rushing quickly on “well I don’t really have anywhere else to go know what I mean? But I hear their leaders a good bloke who tries to help people when they haven’t really got anywhere else to go which would be nice right about now. Not to mention I hear they are thoroughly un-Roman which is something I can really dig I mean I like Rome as about as Rome likes me which really isn’t a lot. So..yeah.” She trailed off and cursed herself for rambling so much but she couldn’t help it. She watched the man, nervous about what he would say, there seemed to be something more to him than he was letting on.
As Kat sat down, Jesus joined her, looking thoughtfully into the fiery tongues as they crackled and spat, and listening to her story. To him, she seemed lost - eager for some kind of an adventure, perhaps. He fell silent as she finished talking, then he chuckled quietly before looking her in the eyes once more.
“Well then, sister Kat, you are very close to whom you seek.” He stated, pausing for a beat to assess her expression, “For you have been seeking us.”
“Uh yeah you might be able to, thing is I’m a bit lost I mean I’ve never been here before but I heard the 12 were around here and I really wanted to meet them so I came looking but I guess they’re harder to find then I think.” She rambled “is that for me? Oh thanks mate I’m absolutely parched.” She took the water and took a long drink. “Thanks mate, so I don’t suppose you know where I might find them do you? The 12 that is.”
“The Twelve.” Jesus repeated - somewhere between being pleased and sorrowed. He shook his head at the prospect, but still offered his smile. As the woman hungrily drank, he bowed his head when thanked, raising it again only to reply. “Could you tell me your name? I might be able to send you in their general direction if you can tell me why you seek them.” Jesus compromised, stretching his hand out and motioning towards an overturned log near the fire. “Will you sit with me?”
Kat smiled and look around. Okay so maybe it wasn’t a palace but it was a nice place. Besides she’d heard rumors that The 12 was hanging around here and that alone was enough to make the place brilliant.
After yet another successful day of teaching, Jesus sat beside the fire, feeding it thin sticks as he was peacefully pulled into his thoughts. A sound disturbed him, however, and he looked up, only to see an unfamiliar woman standing before him - a bag lazily slung in her hand. Jesus looked around briefly, noticing that she was alone, and wondered how she had managed to stumble across the camp. Nevertheless, she would be a guest, he knew, so he found his feet and filled a cup with water. “Can I help you, friend?” He asked with a soft smile, slowly approaching and offering the cup to her.
